601 QUEEN'S ROAD

Part of the group Darwin & Wallace collection, 601 Queen’s Road is a unique space with a central conservatory filling the environment with light. This and the surrounding green area of Wimbledon, were the inspiration for the brand's visuals in which I made original cyanotype artworks to be used across the brand.

Taking inspiration from the location

The light filled central conservatory and natural surroundings inspired the exploration of cyanotypes for the identity artwork.

Making the treatment

Experimenting with cyanotype paper and various leaves, I created a series of unique images to be across the brand applications, from menus to hoarding. A photographic printing process, cyanotypes are the result of a chemical reaction between ferric ammonium citrate, potassium ferricyanide and sunlight. When a material coated in the chemicals is exposed to sunlight, it turns a rich blue. If something is blocking the light, an image of that is left below.
